How to Make Sure Your Data Presentations Don't Suck
And could AI replace line judges at Wimbledon?
Happy Friday all,
Earlier this week, I gave a presentation to 20 stakeholders on the topic of Adversarial Learning. The whole process has got me thinking about what makes a good presentation - and how to avoid giving a bad one - something I talk about in this week’s Tips & Tricks section.
Tips & Tricks
Stop Using PowerPoint for your ML Presentations and Try This Instead - Have you heard of Gradio? It’s a fantastic (and free) tool for building interactive demos of your ML models. In this article, I talk about how I use Gradio to enhance my presentations and keep my audience awake. One extra thing I didn’t talk about in the article - you can embed Gradio apps in webpages, making it a great way to enhance your portfolio by including live demos of models you’ve built.
Scrollytelling with D3.js - Scrollytelling is a fantastic way to present data stories but, while it’s popular in fields like Visual Journalism, I haven’t seen it used much in Data Science/Analytics. Jim Vallandingham has a great guide on building scrollers, and check out The Inside Scoop of Ben & Jerry’s for inspiration.
AI News & Commentary
In – or out? Wimbledon considers replacing line judges with AI - The Wimbledon tennis Grand Slam is in full swing here in the UK, and as a Brit I’m feeling good about my compatriots’ first- and second-round successes. But could AI be the real star of the show?
Five ways AI might destroy the world - 5 leading AI researchers share their views on the existential risks posed by AI. I particularly liked the second point, about the damage that AI is already doing.
Career Corner
What I am Doing to Stay Relevant as a Data Analyst - Great piece from Rashi Desai, talking about how to keep up in an increasingly competitive job market. I particularly like their point about finding small microcourses that are manageable alongside full-time work.
Have a great weekend,
